I visited Hertz to use a birthday coupon because I was in a difficult situation and urgently needed a rental car. The representative who initially assisted me was new and still learning, and I want to make it clear that I had no issue with her.

However, another staff membersomeone Ive seen there many times beforeseemed to be having a bad day and the interaction was noticeably discouraging.
I had attempted to apply my birthday coupon online, but I mistakenly entered the wrong return date (two days instead of three). I fully acknowledge this was my error. However, the website did not indicate that the coupon would not apply due to the incorrect date. Many other companies, including Enterprise and even various food delivery sites, provide clear alerts when a promotion doesnt qualify.

This would have been very helpful.
I also hoped to take advantage of the Managers Special, but the location only had electric vehicles available. When I asked whether another Hertz location had additional options, I was met with a dismissive response and told to find out on my own since they said they could not apply the discount there anyway.
I then asked if it was possible to cancel my original reservation and create a new one so I could correctly use my birthday discount. I was told that if I did so, there was a possibility they would not be able to offer me any vehicle at all because they were sold out. Ultimately, I felt pressured into spending more than I could reasonably afford due to the limited availability and lack of support.
The entire experience gave the impression that maximizing revenue was being prioritized over customer service.

I want to emphasize that without customers, there is no business. Unfortunately, the service I received did not reflect that understanding.

I tried to speak to a human.. got robo "Hailey " instead. She gave me some phone numbers that were not in service. There was not a person to talk with, and all menus were worthless.

I need to speak to the reservations manager at the Minneapolis office about prescription glasses that I forgot in my rental. I've spent over three hours trying to contact the customer service department and have received zero help.

The 'live person' is a bot named Hailey.

Hailey gave me two nonworking phone numbers to try... not helpful.

In the past, when I traveled for work, I used Hertz religiously. They had the nicest cars, and the best customer service.
Recently, I rented a vehicle in Sydney to drive to Perth.

When I made the reservation, I indicated that it was a one-way rental, the price seemed fair, and the pick-up location was very convenient. However, when I received my credit card statement, there was a random charge for a rental in Oklahoma. I went on my profile, and there was no receipt for this charge. I did, however, have a receipt for the rental in Sydney.

The $640+ charge for Oklahoma was not shown as a credit on this bill. It did show a One-Way Rental charge for $1,300 (I figured that was the charge for the actual rental.)
When I called Hertz. I was told that it was a pre-payment charge and the $1,300 charge was for renting one-way. Now, in the past, the daily rate for a one-way rental was more expensive (obviously), and this was the case when I booked in Sydney.

There was no mention of a $1,300 one-way fee. Customer service told me that I could not get a receipt for the $640.00 charge, and that it was what it was. The agent was condescending and rude.
This is the second time Hertz has charged me more than contracted. Once, in Belgium, I rented a car for one day and was told the daily rate was around $200.00.

When I received my bill upon returning, It was almost $900.00. They charged for mileage, but never mentioned they were going to do so.
Basically, if you want to be subject to the ole bait and switch, rent from Hertz.

But I would steer clear of them. They have gone downhill and are now just horrible.

Still situation not resolved. He stated he has been answering calls all day when I went to see him yesterday on my own dollar and my own time and I tried to call for over six hours and got nothing so that says a lot in itself. Situation still not resolved and he says it is all per my bank yet even if charges have changed it’s still shows. It is overcharging me almost $300. Do I go to another location and speak to somebody other than the village idiot at this location because he is not helpful, he is rude and does not belong in customer service whatsoever and highly to not recommend this location ever again
