I had and infiniti QX80 for 250+ dollars a day that had issues and was as loud as a trash truck and no more power than a ford fiesta. Weird major problem in a huge 4x4 infiniti - so hertz finally agreed to come get it and not charge me for refusing to drive 20 miles to airport in a car that sounded like it would blow up....... Here is the email I got after they finally came to pick up a "Nissan 280z " so the tow truck driver insisted he was there for - 280Z? not since like 1978 !!!!

Dear Moses:

Hertz records indicate the vehicle rented on 02/10/16 was not returned on 02/11/16 as due. The contract must be extended or the vehicle returned on today. The contract not being current presents liability concerns for Hertz as well as yourself. This matter must be resolved on today.

If you have returned the vehicle please advise when and where so Hertz can locate the vehicle and properly close contract.

Returned "on today"? Is that assassination of grammar an example of the kind of education that Hertz employees are required to have, or is it a typing issue that the grammar check function of the software did not catch?? I think it most likely was not the computer or software, so that would make sense being the level of service provided by Hertz these days would be similar to what a 4th grade English teacher would give when grading a paper in which a specific time and date was referred to as "on today"โ€ฆ.. I think a D or at best C- is what that kind of English would result in if this was written by a 4th grade English student. Instead this is coming from an employee of a company that has posted over $ 11 billion dollars in salesโ€ฆ..

What I find even more upsetting is that after all is said and done, in 2014 the gross income posted was 1.98 BILLION DOLLARS. That means that by hiring people that do not even speak English, or at least have the ability to communicate well in English, they have increased those profits substantially I suppose. Well that and gouging the customers they promote loyalty programs that are completely false in the benefits that one can "earn" by spending a fortune renting vehicles that are usually dirty, half the time have issues mechanically, and treating everyone equal (like annoying distractions from sitting behind a counter talking to each other) while they put most if any effort into upselling services and upgrades the same way cheesy tanning salons, or used car salesman do all the time.

I feel in my lengthy description of what itโ€™s like to be Gold Plus Rewards Presidents Circle member of Hertz I would be wrong if I did not mention the point system they advertise as a perk or benefit after you go through all of the rewarding experiences I have been sharing. After spending a bazillion dollars renting the dream cars (usually 300-400 a day) in order to drive a car similar to what I drive at home I had thousands of points that at first glance at a brochure or breakdown of what points can be redeemed for days in vehicle types you think it sounds pretty easy to have the money you spend benefit you when you spend it with Hertzโ€ฆ Well that is not at all the case in my experience. I do not rent economy cars and or anything less than luxury. I accumulated those points in cars like the BMW M5 and Porsche 911, and daily spent what that car would cost monthly to lease or own in some cases. My choice and not at all Hertz fault for providing that service for the fee I am usually fine paying, for cars I consider worth it. WELL points are not the same as a credit card when it comes to needing a rental. The reservation must be made 24 hours in advance before you can even think of having one point cover anything.. The points are redeemable only in car classes that are limited to prestige vehicles at best, and that is subject to policy that is so random because most times when I was able to 24 hours in advance try to book a car I could not redeem anything more than a full size or similar class due to days of the week or date restrictions that could not even be explained as to what and when made them available or not . I had all these points that I could never use, and when I did I still had to pay to upgrade to a decent car.

So this leads me to my favorite Hertz "feature" or "benefit" I guess you could call it. The well-oiled machine cranking out 2 billion dollars a year would not be complete without the toll road policy and procedures that I know so well now. I rented from Hertz to the tune of more than $10,000 a year and while driving used the same toll roads I use in my cars. No problem paying 20 dollars in tolls ,when you have a 400 daily rate that seems to be no big deal. Thatโ€™s where the department that handles the toll charges has made a simple process into a horribly painful and expensive nightmare should one get flushed into the toilet that they call a department. I think they are actually third party company anyway parasitically existing on hertz clients but nonetheless I found out about them via the do not rent list I was placed on . After renting all the time, and having my credit card on file rental after rental at some point I show up at an airport with my hertz reservation made and instead of getting into my car I am paying for I am told that I am on the do not rent list, with no reason as to why but given a phone number to call. That department is not open except business hours, not including weekends or holidays of course. SO I am left to wander over to another rental company should I need to drive a car after flying all day, or being driven to the airport in a taxi ($ 75 fare in one instance). This all happened because I had incurred toll charges on various rentals that for whatever reason did not get charged to my card when I returned the vehicle, and did not prevent my renting vehicles again and again for sometimes months until sometime, somehow it led to my getting added to the list. The next time this happened I found out only after I had booked with my points in Hawaii a car that we drove over an hour to pick up at night only to be told I was on the list. I had dropped a car in San Diego at the airport, flown to Hawaii and the next night gone to pick up a convertible only to have them tell me I could not rent and they did not know why. My friends had dropped me, and headed back the hour drive only to have to turn around and pick me up at 11pm since I could not drive away in my rental that of course my points were taken promptly, and have yet to be given back as they are "researching" the error, over less than 120 dollars in toll charges going back a few months on various rentals all of which I have had my same credit card on my profile, completely accessible should they have just billed that card anytime I would have not questioned it since I am used to the nickel and dime process using Hertz ends up being. It is not unusual to see random amounts charged all over my credit card statement that make no sense and should I want to find out I can literally spend hours trying to get someone who isnโ€™t in the Philippines and speaks reasonable English, that is not rude, and if they are will actually transfer me to a supervisor instead of hanging up on me after the brief hold lasting usually 10 mins or more. Ridiculous

So I called finally during their hours, after being on hold and getting to someone with a thick accent who was rude from the beginning demanding my rental record numbers which I did not memorize or have in my pocket so it led to much audible exhaling of breath and brief holds each no less than 5 mins to finally have this lady telling me I owed a total of no more than 120 dollars in tolls. I said fine I want to pay them now. But that would be too easy, she then proceeded to go through each one, out of 8 or more wanting my credit card number, address, security code etc. on EVERY RENTAL complete with disclaimers for each, refusing to just write my billing info down and charge them she insisted on asking me EVERY TIME to repeat it, and explained how she was trying to help me and security policy prevented her from doing any less than dragging it out. Of course she was being completely sarcastically nice and enjoying making me frustrated as it was very clear she was rude from the beginning. SO OVER HERTZ and the ghetto people they call employees. I

So having almost lost my mind, but feeling that my alternative choices are no better usually especially with the cars available I continue to use Hertz. I could go on with the many instances in trying to be a part of that bottom line 2 billion dollar plus number that they publish as profits for providing the kind of service that I have shared in my tirade. Bitter?? Probably.. I may be a lot of things but all said and done I am a customer whoโ€™s dollars are just as valuable as the next person and this is how the Hertz experience leads to that magic number being 2 billion plus profit. I for one feel that by being a little less greedy and perhaps hiring people capable of adhering to standards or even just being able to pretend they care and help me spend my hard earned money without hold times of 20 mins and having to spend hours on hold and transferred to pay with a credit card they already have just to spend more money would not be unreasonable to expect. But corporate greed is the biggest force in many aspects of our lives and it does not seem to produce results that are good for anything except supporting the lifestyles of people that would never even rent from hertz in the first place.. Just take the helicopter to the jet and fly over the people standing at the counter hoping for a chance to spend money they barely have without being put through *** and treated badโ€ฆ.. LOL Love you too Hertz.

I am just ranting I realize but I donโ€™t care at this point, I am so over it.

Anyway, that being my experience as a Presidents Circle Member of the Gold Rewards whatever club.
